The breed has arisen in America.

As a main point for breeding the Shiloh Shepherd four lines of the German Shepherd were selected.

There was used a very strict programme for following all dogs from each litter, not only the dogs which would possibly be used for breeding, this to discover and exclude genetic deviations for the beginning of the wanted breed

This special selection produced a breed of huge size, big intelligence, simply to train, correct body, good hips without the extreme hook which we see at the most German Shepherds, broad heads and gentle temperament.

Due to a carefully breeding policy the Shiloh Shepherd arose.

To prevent the genetic pitfall which arises by intense line breeding MAW (Malamute, American Shepherd and White Shepherd) outcross were introduced in 1989.

This outcross brought necessary new blood to preserve the wanted temperament, the size and health of the Shiloh.

In 1998, after much research, an Old German Shepherd was imported from Germany for new outcross.

In the autumn of 2000 a special selected AWSA dog was added again.

This new blood, when added to the Shiloh line, would ensure healthy hips and something more self-confidence in the character, as well as the gene population, without affecting original qualities for which the Shiloh was bred.
